Calliope to Gin Gin Rest Area

Calliope Rest Area to Gin Gin Rest Area

Mary needed an item from Crazy Clarks store in Gladstone so we made our way, firstly to the toilet dump at Calliope town and then headed into Gladstone in search of the alleged store. Not located at the listed address and apparently had moved to another shopping area and so we navigated there, courtesy of Tomtom, and found – nothing here either! Never mind they definitely had a store down the road at Maryborough, so off we headed, still training for the Professional Bull Riding back in Rocky, and soon found the address listed for Crazy Clark in Maryborough.

Eureka, the shopping centre had signs guiding us through the centre towards Crazy Clark. But wait – it had morphed into a Sam’s Warehouse store now (not advertised either!) but didn’t have the required material. It was then that I enquired as to the cost of the needed item and whether we could buy them at maybe Big W who had a large store in town. Yes Big W did usually stock them but they were something like $2 more there than at Crazy Clark! It had already far exceed that price in unnecessary fuel, wear and tear on vehicle and me, so it was politely suggested that, in the interests of budgetary constraint we would now buy from the nearest store regardless of the name on the storefront.

The road south continued to challenge with a few good upgraded spots combined with the routine bad stretches through mainly bush lined highway and the occasional small village to the Gin Gin Rest Area (C6 #118) about two kilometres north of the nice little town of Gin Gin. We had stayed here previously and soon grabbed the nice level spot that wasn’t underneath the massively flowering large trees that soon envelope your rig and leave an awful mess, especially when combined with bird droppings. We could hear and see the traffic about one hundred meters away but it didn’t pose much of a problem. There were a few others ‘in residence’ although this is supposed to be a 20 hour only stop. There isn’t much to say about these small rest stops as they usually have a toilet block and some free parking and that is all.
